Due to a nearby nesting pair of Spott4d Owl, workers were required to use hand tools to fell the tree and strip the bark. 

BLM required bark to be removed from all branches greater than 1 inch diameter.

Workers, many of whom were ex-loggers, placed the bark in bags to be hauled down the mountain.

The Yew bark was used to make Taxol - a drug to treat Ovarian cancer.

A Yew (Taxus brevifolia) grows in an old-growth forest in Oregon.  The bark was used to make Taxol - a drug to treat Ovarian cancer.

Yew's grow slowly. Aside from being great wood for making traditional long bows, they have little commercial value.
